"TERRIFIC WRITERS"

"Husband and wife duo Bobby and Virginia Matthews are terrific writers with a knack for improv and a gift for crafting infectious pop ditties so full of love and life they defy easy categorization." Chris Davis, Memphis Flyer

Virginia Ralph joined fellow University of Memphis alum to form ensemble based theatre company Voices of the South, where she was resident composer and performed for over 50,000 school children across America in original children's theatre productions. VOTS devoted 10 years to the staging of the work of conservationist Olaus and Mardy Murie, and were commissioned by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to create a piece in their honor to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Arctic National Wildlife Service.  In 2012 she and Bobby collaborated on the music for her original children's play, "An Old Forest Fairy Tale," a whimsical re-telling of the saving of the Old Forest in the middle of Memphis, the play whose song "Take Care" would go on to garner Mömandpöp a number one hit on Kids Place Live!

Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Bobby Matthews recorded and toured with his punk band Trusty in the late 1980s, eventually relocating the band

(and his new bride, Virginia)

to Washington, D.C. in 1992 where they recorded two full-length albums for Dischord Records.  Since then he has taught pre-K through 5th grade art for over 15 years, fronted a band with the rhythm section of one of his favorite bands, The Grifters, (Dragoon), and collaborated with friend and (fellow Little Rockian) Matt Besser of the Upright Citizen's Brigade, creating music for "The UCB Show" and the podcast "Stolen Idea."
